The National Tax Agency has announced a special program that will greatly simplify the procedures for receiving liquor tax refunds. The special measures will apply to liquor businesses in Ishikawa and Toyama prefectures that were affected by the Noto Peninsula earthquake.

If a liquor handling business is unable to sell its inventory due to a disaster or other reason, it can receive a refund of the liquor tax paid to the liquor manufacturer at the time of purchase. Major beverage manufacturers will collectively accept declarations from business operators, bill the government, and distribute refunds.
