Dire Straits co-founder Mark Knopfler auctioned off several of his instruments. Gibson Les Paul Standard from 1959 fetched 813,000 euros at Christie's auction house in London.

A quarter of the auction proceeds will go to charities such as the British Red Cross. The band became world-famous for guitar-heavy hits such as “Sultans of Swing” and “Brothers in Arms’ KnopFler admitted that he might use his proceeds from the auction to buy new guitars.
