This year marks the 100th anniversary of the Great Kanto Earthquake. At that time, while a large area of urban Tokyo was burned down by a fire caused by an earthquake, only one corner of it burned down in Chiyoda Ward.

Residents frantically engaged in firefighting activities using water conservancy facilities such as this pumping station. The pump station, which has become a relic, was used for sewage treatment by the Bureau of Sewerage of the Tokyo Metropolitan Government until six years ago. It was decided to dismantle it when a facility was developed on the site.
