Psychological autopsy is a scientific method still of little application in Spain. Last February a judgment of the Superior Court of Justice of Cantabria included it as evidence in a judicial process.
The aim is to shed light on suicidal behaviour, which involves biological, psychological and/or social factors. There is never a single cause. In this process it is essential to analyze the biography of that person and especially his last month of life, draw a psychological profile that helps identify traits and aspects of his personality. The professional who investigates with necessary help in the inner world of a person who has died is the psychologist or forensic psychiatrist.
