Portrait of Ryukyu Kingdom king found in America, handed over to Okinawa Prefecture. Portraits such as the "Ogoe" portrait of the king of the RyukyU Kingdom, which went missing due to the chaos of the Battle of Okinawa at the end of the Pacific War, are now in the United States.

In 2001, the prefecture requested the FBI (Federal Bureau of Investigation) to investigate cultural properties believed to have been leaked outside Japan. In March 2023, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that 22 items had been discovered in theUnited States.
