Many white-fronted geese are flying to Lake Utonai in Tomakomai City, Hokkaido, heralding the arrival of spring. The morning of the 25th was foggy, but just as the sun rose, about 30,000 geese and other birds took off en masse across the lake.

People with cameras came to take photos of this moment, known as ``roosting,'' and a man who lives in the city said, ``Migratory birds come twice a year, so I come each time to take pictures.''
