Japan-U.S. joint memorial ceremony on Iwo Jima “Memories of the fierce battle gradually fade”.

Approximately 170 people attended this year's joint memorial service between Japan and the United States. After the ceremony, those in attendance visited the underground cave and Mt. Suribachi. Fierce battles took place between the Japanese and American forces on I Wo Jima in the Ogasawara Islands from February to March 1945, resulting in approximately 21,900 Japanese and 6,800 American deaths.
