The Palestinian Authority (PA) government submitted its resignation to President Mahmoud Abbas on Monday. The resignation might seem unexpected in the context of the war between Israel and Hamas – which has been going on for almost five months.

But internal tensions seem to have gotten the better of the government. The image of the Palestinian Authority has also been damaged for years by accusations of corruption within it, to the point that a Palestinian activist – Nizar Banat – who forcefully denounced it died under blows from members of the forces.
