International organizations: Half of Sudan's population suffers from famine and malnutrition. Estimates of the World Food Program and the United Nations Humanitarian Coordinator indicated that about half of Sudan’s population suffers.
According to Al Jazeera's correspondent, United Nations estimates also indicated that hunger and malnutrition affected about half the country's population since April 15 last year. The clashes between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces have been ongoing since April last year, the U.N. estimates. The U.S. State Department says it is working with Sudan to find a solution to the problem.
