Despite the horrific humanitarian catastrophe, Gaza has carved out a prominent place for itself in the history of resistance to injustice and occupation. The battle of Al-Aqsa quickly turned into an existential alarm bell for the occupation, and a source of optimism and hope for the Palestinians and the Arab peoples burdened by oppression.

Israel was granted Western immunity, gained awe and fear in the hearts of its enemies, and made itself a fortress.
