Rajesh Vishwas, 32, dropped his cell phone in the Kherkatta reservoir in Chhattisgarh, India. After local divers failed to find it, Vishwas contacted the irrigation authority.
He received permission to pump two million litres of water out of the reservoir. Vishwas has publicly denied abusing his office, saying the water he drained came from the dam's overflow area and was "unusable" After three days, the ludicrous rescue operation was stopped – and Vishwas suspended.
