From May next year, passports and ID cards should be delivered by post if someone is registered in Germany. The changes will make handling passport and ID matters “easier and more digital,” says Interior Minister Nancy Faeser.

The Federal Cabinet decided on a corresponding innovation on Wednesday in Berlin. The reform still has to pass the Federal Council, which is expected to approve it next month. A photo at the office - and the passport comes home in the mail: If you need a new identification document, things will soon be easier.
