Founded in 1989 after a suicide bombing on a bus traveling from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem, Zaka became an official organization in 1995. The organization has more than 3,000 volunteers deployed throughout the country, primarily Orthodox Jews, who respond on the ground during terrorist attacks, road accidents or natural disasters.
