Mohammed al-Maghout was born on December 12, 1934, in Hama, Syria. He was known for his beautiful calligraphy, style and expression.

He died as a result of illness on Monday, the third of April 2006, in Damascus. His works include the plays "I will betray my homeland" and "The Book of Lamentations" He was married to the poet Sinia and had two daughters, but the marriage ended in divorce. He also had a son and a daughter with another woman, who died of cancer.
