The great lady of West Indian letters, Maryse Condé, passed away on the night of April 1 to 2 at the age of 90. She died following a long hereditary degenerative illness, known as “Bouclon disease” The author of Ségou, a Romanesque epic in two volumes which made him known in the 1980s, died in hospital.

She won the Alternative Nobel Prize in Literature in 2018 for her novel Le Fabulous and sad fate of Ivan and Ivana.
