Last year, a 6-month-old girl died after eating a grated apple at a nursery school in Aira City, Kagoshima Prefecture. Verification committee found that the apple was likely the cause of her choking.
Committee compiled a report that included measures to prevent recurrence. Mayor Toshihiro Yumoto said he will work to prevent such a sad accident from happening again and create an environment where people can leave their children with more peace of mind than ever before.
