Péter Eötvös died on Sunday in Budapest at the age of 80 after a long illness. The artist was internationally celebrated as a master of contemporary music.

He was inspired by Zoltán Kodály, Karlheinz Stockhausen and Pierre Boulez. His opus no. 1, the piano piece “Kosmos’, was premiered in October 2017 in Hamburg Elbphilharmonie. He made his international breakthrough as an opera composer with “The Three Sisters” based on Chekhov.
