Around 13 million people in China are currently trying to pass the Gaokao, which gives them access to university. Once again, 56-year-old Liang Shi is there – he was 16 on his first attempt.
The exam is said to be the "world's hardest" of its kind. Every year, a great deal of effort is put into the up to four-day exams to prevent cheating and to bring them to the tests on time. "I really want to go to university and become an intellectual," Liang says.
