At the Cannes Film Festival in France, one of the world's three major film festivals, Takeshi Kitano's first new film in six years was screened to great applause from the audience. "Neck" is a film adaptation of Honnoji's strangeness with its own interpretation, depicting the ambitions and betrayals of various characters, such as Sengoku warlords and Hyakusama.

Kitano wrote and edited the original story, and also played the role of Toyotomi Hideyoshi.
