A 44-year-old man was fatally shot at the Checkpoint Charlie tourist attraction in the center of Berlin. The man was walking on Zimmerstrasse near Friedrichstrasse on Sunday evening around 8 p.m.

" Suddenly shots were fired," as the police and public prosecutor's office announced on Monday. Witnesses immediately alerted paramedics and the police. The area around the former GDR border crossing CheckpointCharlie was cordoned off extensively. The police investigation was still ongoing on Monday morning.
