A brown bear has died on a railway line in the Austrian province of Salzburg. The animal was captured by a train on Tuesday morning near Schwarzach.

The carcass of the bear had serious injuries, including to the head. In April, a bear had killed several sheep in the district of Rosenheim, according to the Bavarian State Office for the Environment. The nearest bear population from Bavaria lives in the northern Italian province of Trentino, about 120 kilometers as the crow flies from the southernmost part of Bavaria.
