Paleophilology is a discipline that reads ancient characters such as oracle bone inscriptions and bronze inscriptions. It uses ancient characters to study language, literature, history and other issues.

Most of the winners of the Outstanding Achievement Award for Oracle Interpretation are graduates of Jilin University.
