21 local governments nationwide to consider starting ride-sharing business. Maizuru City and Takamori Town in Kumamoto Prefecture, have expressed their intention to start the project.
Both areas are said to have problems with public transportation for residents to get around. The government has decided to introduce "ride sharing,'' in which ordinary drivers use private cars to transport people for a fee, from April this year, in limited areas under the management of taxi companies. In depopulated areas where it is difficult to secure transportation such as buses and taxis, we are expanding the system.
