The culling of approximately 1,100 pigs raised at a pig farm in Tochigi City began on the morning of the 17th. The 26 animals that were shipped to slaughterhouses just before swine fever was confirmed have already been culled.

There are several other pig farms within a 10km radius, but no abnormalities have been confirmed at any of them. "Meat from infected pigs will never be released on the market," says the prefecture. The prefecture has set up "disinfection points'' at two locations.
