The Balticconnector gas pipeline is planned to be put into operation in April 2024. The timing of the pipeline's resumption depends on whether repairs are completed as planned.

Police in Finland are inclined to believe that the anchor that damaged the pipeline belonged to a ship from China, the Newnew Polar Bear. The head of the Finnish Foreign Ministry, Elina Valtonen, called it unlikely that two communication cables and the pipeline were damaged by accident. The pipeline was damaged in October 2023.
