There were 25.8 billion newspapers published and 11.9 billion books, and the per capita book ownership was 8.40 books. There are 1.071 million medical and health institutions in the country, including 39,000 hospitals, 12,000 public hospitals and 27,000 private hospitals. A total of 9.56 billion patients were diagnosed and treated throughout the year.
