Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry proposes new strategy based on lessons learned from withdrawal from development of domestically produced jet airliners. Based on the lessons learned, we will enhance our development capabilities through international collaboration and other means.

Next-generation passenger aircraft that are decarbonized, such as hybrid and hydrogen engines, should be commercialized starting in 2035, the government says. The reason behind the withdrawal was that the safety certification process and lack of experience in dealing with overseas parts manufacturers led to high costs.
