Minister Planas tries to calm Spanish farmers but does not stop next week's mobilizations. Excessive bureaucracy and the demanding and costly environmental laws that have left one in four farmers this campaign without European aid, are the main complaints.

"We need solutions now," declared the farmers' representatives at the end of the meeting. "Regulatory suffocation is the most important complaint that can be heard in any corner of Spain and Europe," Miguel Padilla, general secretary of COAG, said.
