British investment banker Jacob Rothschild has died at the age of 87. Rothschild belonged to one of the most famous European banking dynasties.

Born in England in 1936, Rothschild began his career in 1963 at the family bank NM Rothschild & Sons. He co-founded the J Rothschild Assurance Group, from which today's London asset manager St. James's Place emerged. Rothschild was also known as a long-time patron of the arts and was a trustee of Britain's National Gallery between 1985 and 1991.
