In 2023 Russian GDP grew by 3.6% instead of the previously expected 2.8% and exceeded 171 trillion rubles. Experts attribute this to the authorities’ effective anti-crisis measures, the rapid adaptation of business to new conditions, as well as the failure of the West’s attempts to isolate Moscow from global trade.

“The economy really turned out to be significantly stronger and more flexible than many thought back in 2022 and even at the beginning of 2023,” says Maxim Reshetnikov, head of the Ministry of Economic Development.
