Seven lignite power plant blocks were shut down in the Rhenish Revier and in Brandenburg. Eight medium-sized and smaller hard coal plants with a total output of 1.3 gigawatts will finally be taken off the grid.

Federal Minister of Economics Robert Habeck believes Germany's energy supply is more independent than before the energy crisis. The electricity “now comes mostly from clean, climate-friendly sources,” said Habecks. The closure of all blocks had originally been planned for an earlier date.
