E-cars from China: EU sets course for retroactive tariffs. Electric car manufacturers from China are considered the toughest competition for Western manufacturers.

Now they can hope: The EU sees indications of state subsidies for Chinese companies and is bringing customs into action. In the coming months, the EU Commission will decide whether to impose punitive tariffs on electric cars imported from China. The decision as to whether tariffs will be levied to protect EU manufacturers depends on the result of the investigation. The investigation is expected to be completed by November but the EU could introduce temporary tariffs as early as July.
