In August 2016, the "Guiding Opinions on Building a Green Financial System" was released. Chongqing and Gansu Lanzhou New District were subsequently approved to build green financial reform and innovation pilot zones.
In June 2017, the executive meeting of the State Council decided to select some places in the five provinces (regions) of Zhejiang, Jiangxi, Guangdong, Guizhou, and Xinjiang. The first batch of green finance reform and Innovation Pilot zones have completed the five-year trial period.
