Sanctions from the US Treasury Department follow Alain Mukonda's relationship with Israeli billionaire Dan Gertler, accused by the US Treasury of having served as an intermediary in the sale of mining assets in the DRC.
In total, there are 12 companies domiciled in the DRC but also in Gibraltar whose accounts were frozen after the sanctions of OFAC, the office for the control of foreign assets.

In their press release, the American authorities justify the sanctions taken against Alain Mukonda and twelve of his companies by the supportive role he played with Dan Gertler.
In 2017, the Israeli billionaire was placed under US sanctions.
He was then accused by the Treasury Department of having served as an intermediary in the sale of mining assets in the DRC and of having accumulated hundreds of millions of dollars through opaque contracts in the country.
Facts he has always denied.
Alain Mukonda then opened several bank accounts and repeatedly transferred money to accounts held indirectly by Dan Gertler.
In sixteen transactions, between 11 and 13.5 million dollars ended up in the accounts of companies belonging to the family of the Israeli businessman.
Alain Mukonda will also re-domiciliate several companies owned by Dan Gertler, now establishing them in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
The US Treasury Department now claims to bring the number of companies and individuals close to Dan Gertler under sanctions to 46, and is committed to supporting anti-corruption efforts in the DRC.
