Three environmental groups filed a lawsuit Tuesday in a court in Washington (United States) against the government of Donald Trump, claiming that the construction of a wall on the border with Mexico threatened in particular the jaguars .

This wall, supposed to stem illegal immigration from Central America, is a flagship campaign promise of the Republican billionaire.

"Sacrificed regions"

Erecting this wall is, among other things, “building on federal protected land such as national forests”, and disturbing the habitat “of endangered and threatened species”, say the associations Defenders of Wildlife, Center for Biological Diversity and Animal Legal Defense Fund.

Jason Rylander, lead lawyer for the NGO Defenders of Wildlife, said the construction would "block transboundary corridors crucial to wildlife and permanently hamper efforts to recover endangered species like the wolf Mexican gray and the jaguar ". Brian Segee, lawyer for the Center for Biological Diversity, said that "Trump's assault on the US Constitution has reached new heights by transforming border areas into sacrificed regions."
