Dutch sprinter Dylan Groenewegen, responsible on Wednesday for the terrible fall at the finish of the Tour of Poland after which his compatriot Fabio Jakobsen was plunged into a coma, was provisionally suspended on Friday by his Jumbo-Visma team.

"We have decided that Dylan will no longer participate in races until the UCI (International Cycling Union) has made a decision about the incident," the team said in a statement.

Jakobsen crashed heavily shortly before the finish line of the first stage of the Tour of Poland on Wednesday in Katowice. The defending Dutch champion was crushed by Dylan Groenewegen in a sprint at full speed, downhill, and was thrown over the barriers.

Jakobsen was then plunged into an induced coma, which he emerged from on Friday, while Groenewegen underwent surgery for a broken collarbone.
