China News Service, Huzhou, May 20 (Reporter Shi Zinan) On the morning of May 20, the government of the People's Republic of China and the United Nations signed the agreement and memorandum of understanding on the host country of the United Nations Global Geographic Information Knowledge and Innovation Center and the inauguration ceremony of the center was held online.

  It is reported that the United Nations Global Geographic Information Knowledge and Innovation Center is the first organization directly under the United Nations Secretariat in China. It is affiliated to the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs and is located in Deqing County, Huzhou City, Zhejiang Province.

  The center will fully mobilize the advantages, resources and strengths of stakeholders in each member state, further enhance the key role of geographic information in global sustainable development, collect and share relevant data and information, and actively implement the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development for the international community Provide technical and capacity building support to jointly address global challenges in the economic, social and environmental fields.

  In November 2018, the Moganshan Declaration issued by the first United Nations World Geoinformation Conference proposed to support Deqing in establishing a United Nations agency for cooperation and exchange in the field of geographic information.

In August 2019, the United Nations formed a resolution on "Accelerating the establishment of a global geographic information knowledge and innovation center in Deqing" at the ninth meeting of the Committee of Experts on Global Geographic Information Management.

  The landing of the innovation center is conducive to deepening the cooperation between China and the United Nations in the field of global geographic information, and to participate in and support the development of the United Nations with more pragmatic measures; More global public goods and services will contribute to the implementation of the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the building of a community with a shared future for mankind.

  At the same time, the innovation center will further support Zhejiang to seize the opportunity in the new development pattern of "dual circulation", win the initiative, and help build an open and strong province.
