The prestigious residents of the upscale district of Hampstead, north London, may not know it, but Charles de Gaulle was settled there during the Occupation.

The General, who led the forces of Free France from the British capital from 1940, occupied a splendid residence of 1,200 square meters there.

Responding to the name of Frognal House, this mansion built in the 18th century has just been put on the market at a price of 17.5 million euros.

According to

Mansion Global

, the property was long occupied by the Sisters of Saint Dorothea, who offered international students learning in London a place of residence.

A bygone era, but future owners will be able to take advantage of the incredible cachet of the place, and in particular of a peaceful garden where, it is said, Yvonne de Gaulle had raised a few chickens during her stay in London!
