Basel (dpa) - At the start of the European Gymnastics Championships, Sarah Voss was the first German gymnast to set an example against the sexualization of the sport with her appearance in a full body suit.

In contrast to the usual tight, swimsuit-like dress, the 21-year-old from Cologne did her exercise on the balance beam in a long-legged gymnastics suit during the qualification in Basel.

"As part of the German national gymnastics team, we are also a role model for many younger athletes and we would like to show them how they can present themselves aesthetically in a different form of clothing without feeling uncomfortable with certain elements," explained the World Cup -Seven her action on the beam.

Like Emma Malewski from Chemnitz in the morning, the two Stuttgart-based Elisabeth Seitz and Kim Bui also wanted to go to the equipment in their usual dress in their all-around qualification that was scheduled for the evening.

However, the latter announced that they also wanted to do long suits in the final of the 24 best gymnasts.

Elisabeth Seitz recently criticized the fact that photos of her with suggestive motifs are published again and again.
