The Secours populaire de l'Allier has been confronted since the end of August with an increase in registrations.

The local branch of the charity registers twice as many files as at the start of the 2021 school year, reports

La Montagne

.

This increase is not surprising.

According to the 16th barometer of poverty and precariousness in France, carried out by the Secours populaire, 57% say they have already experienced a situation of poverty, i.e. 3% more than in 2021. 15% more French people find it difficult to pay their transport costs and 5% of their energy bill.

Missing helpers

The association does not have precise figures for each department but “we are seeing these same increases among our population”, confides Nicole Higelin, head of Secours populaire, at

La Montagne

.

The high inflation affecting France has something to do with it.

The challenge for the association is to find new resources to support all those who need it.

The Fund for European Aid to the Most Deprived will also stop providing certain foodstuffs.

For both volunteers and beneficiaries, the year promises to be complicated.
