China News Service, Zhengzhou, August 8th. Title: Post-disaster reconstruction of Henan agriculture: busy production after injury

  Author Yang Dayong

On August 7, in the farmland soaked by the flood in Hanling Town, Anyang City, Henan Province, some farmers were busy raising fallen corn, and some villagers were busy replanting crops.

Production scenarios such as rescuing, replanting, and replanting are everywhere in the farmland that has suffered from floods in Henan.

That day was the beginning of autumn, one of the twenty-four solar terms in China. This season is a critical period for the formation of autumn crop yields.

At this time of the year, farmers in Henan may check the growing crops in the fields, or weed, spray, and fertilize the fields. This year, severe floods disrupted the pace of farmers, eliminating the accumulation of water in the fields, and stepping up replanting. Crops and saving corn from lodging have become the top priority.

In late July, severe floods occurred in Henan and agricultural production suffered heavy losses.

According to the press conference of the Press Office of the Henan Provincial Government, as of August 3, 14.7 million mu of crops were affected in Henan Province, of which 9.7 million mu were damaged and 5.7 million mu had no harvest.

Hanling Town is one of the disaster-stricken towns in Anyang City, and local crops such as corn, tomatoes, and yam have suffered certain losses.

"About 3,000 mu of corn was affected. We have provided free seeds for farmers to replant." Feng Yuchun, secretary of the Party Committee of Hanling Town, told reporters that the town coordinated from Shandong to provide tomato seedlings for farmers to replant. The yam is changed to broccoli. "At present, the replanting of crops has been basically completed."

Houma Village in the town is only more than 1,000 meters away from Anyang River. When the flood flooded over the dam, 800 acres of farmland suffered.

"The flood is gradually receding, and the fallen corn has to be lifted up." Chen Banghui, Party branch secretary of Houma Village, said that because there is still water in the fields, it is impossible to replant other crops. The only way to reduce losses is to save corn.

In the severely affected areas such as Xinxiang, Hebi, and Jiaozuo, farmers are also stepping up to restore agricultural production.

A government official surnamed Li in Jiaozuo City regretted the local agricultural losses.

He introduced that local farmers are currently actively restoring agricultural production under the guidance and help of relevant departments, replanting, replanting, and pumping water without stopping, because the seasons wait for no one.

Restoring agricultural production is an important part of restoring economic order.

In order to speed up the post-disaster reconstruction of the agricultural sector and minimize the losses caused by the disaster, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs of the People's Republic of China on the one hand calls the national disaster relief reserve seed, on the other hand, coordinates seed companies in 16 provinces to donate disaster relief seeds to meet 5 million acres of disaster-stricken farmland for replanting and replanting. At the same time, a number of disaster relief expert teams were sent to carry out agricultural technical guidance services in Henan.

The Department of Agriculture and Rural Affairs of Henan Province also sent 9 working groups led by department-level officials and 22 expert service groups to go deep into the disaster area to guide disaster relief and post-disaster recovery of production.

In terms of funding, the central government has allocated 100 million yuan in agricultural production disaster relief funds, and coordinated financial institutions to grant interest-free loans to disaster-stricken farmers. The Henan Provincial Government has also allocated 480 million yuan in agricultural production disaster relief funds in three batches.
