Before the Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics, passenger baggage inspection will be available from next month to prevent railroad operators from bringing in dangerous goods.

Three years ago, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism banned the bringing in of blades that were not properly packaged after three passengers were suddenly cut by a man with a knife and injured in the train on the Tokaido Shinkansen.

However, since there was no stipulation in the law regarding baggage inspection, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism will amend the ministerial ordinance so that baggage inspection will be possible from next month and if it does not respond, it will be possible to request to move out from the station etc. Did.

In 2019, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism and railway companies will patrol detection dogs that can sniff out explosives, and Tokyo Metro will install a "body scanner" that detects dangerous substances with electromagnetic waves at the ticket gate. We are conducting a demonstration experiment.

The revised ministerial ordinance will come into effect on the 1st of next month, and in preparation for the Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics, railway companies want to inspect railways with many users so as not to impair convenience as much as possible.
