Panasonic's Okayama Plant in Higashi-ku, Okayama City has been producing video tape recorders and digital cameras since 1973, and is currently producing commercial video cameras for broadcasting stations and video production companies.
However, the company decided to close the factory at the end of September next year due to intensifying competition with other companies and shrinking demand.
Production of commercial video cameras will be transferred to a factory in Kadoma City, Osaka, and will continue.
In addition, more than 300 employees, excluding temporary staff, will respond by relocating to a factory in Kadoma City and will maintain employment.
The Okayama Factory uses a "clean room" to produce masks for its employees, but explains that the future is undecided.
Panasonic is rushing to reform its structure by continuously withdrawing or reducing unprofitable sectors such as LCD panel production and semiconductor business.
