On the afternoon of November 8, the official website of UNESCO announced that a new batch of 49 cities have joined the UNESCO Creative Cities Network. Huai’an was successfully selected as the “World Capital of Gastronomy”, becoming the second largest city in China after Chengdu, Shunde, Macau, and Yangzhou. Five cities that rank among the "Gourmet Capitals of the World".

  After five years of unremitting efforts, Huai'an has successfully joined the UNESCO Creative City Network.

Huai'an is an important birthplace and inheritance place of Huaiyang cuisine. It has previously been awarded the titles of "Hometown of Huaiyang Cuisine in China" and "Famous Food City in China".

Huaiyang cuisine began in the Spring and Autumn Period and flourished in the Ming and Qing Dynasties.

There are more than 1,300 kinds of famous dishes in Huai'an, and 298 of them have been selected as provincial intangible cultural heritage, which is the largest number of districts and cities in the country.

Chinese food culture is well-known in the world, and Huai'an is selected as the "World Food Capital", which is conducive to promoting the international exchange of Huaiyang cuisine, allowing more and more people to feel the rich cultural heritage and unique urban charm of Huai'an.
