The two fires which broke out for reasons still unknown a few minutes apart on Saturday afternoon in the Landes, destroyed a total of more than 100 ha of forest.

However, they are now "circumscribed" and under control, the Landes prefecture announced on Sunday.

These two fires destroyed 56 ha of pine forests in the Mimizan sector, near a traveler's area, and 45 ha between Seignosse and Soustons near Etang Blanc, in a wooded area difficult to access. .

No victim is to be deplored, said the prefecture.

They have mobilized since Saturday afternoon up to 230 firefighters, supported by two canadairs from the south-east.

Dozens of residents and tourists evacuated on Saturday "as a precaution"

The fires, some 80 km away, were "fixed" during the night.

"They are no longer making progress but remain under surveillance," said an officer from the Landes departmental fire and rescue service.

About sixty firefighters were still present in Seignosse on Sunday and around fifty others in Mimizan to extinguish residual foci and identify any outbreak of fires that could be stoked by the return of a moderate wind on Sunday, explained the firefighter.

Dozens of residents and tourists were evacuated Saturday "as a precaution" in the evening and resettled.

In Mimizan, twenty caravans from the Travelers' area were evacuated, or about twenty people according to the Landes firefighters.

In Seignosse, a restaurant, eleven houses and a campsite, representing a total of 61 people, were evacuated, according to the prefecture.
