Eurovision Junior 2020 is maintained but candidates will stay at home

A musical meeting… at a distance.

The 18th edition of Eurovision Junior will be held in Warsaw (Poland) in November.

But the candidates from the thirteen countries of this singing competition reserved for 9-14 year olds will stay at home.

They will deliver their performance from a TV studio in their respective countries.

Only the Polish artist and the contest hosts will appear on the main stage in Warsaw.

"The travel restrictions and the situation regarding the Covid-19 pandemic unfortunately prevent us from bringing together all the singers in Poland", deplores Martin Österdahl, the executive supervisor of Eurovision Junior in a press release published on Tuesday.

To ensure fairness between all the participants, the delegations and broadcasters agreed on the use of a stage layout and similar technical means from one country to another.

France will be in the running as well as Armenia, Germany, Belarus, Georgia, Kazhakstan, Malta, Russia, Serbia, Spain, the Netherlands, Ukraine and therefore, Poland.

Six countries withdrew

Compared to the 2019 edition, the 2020 edition will have six fewer countries involved.

Australia, Wales, Ireland, North Macedonia, Portugal, Albania, Italy, competing last year, have decided to withdraw.

The artist who will represent France will be formalized soon.

The final of the Eurovision Junior 2020 will be broadcast live at 5 p.m. on France 2 on November 29.

In 2019, France finished in fifth place with the song
