Cooperation between Dubai and the Dominican Republic to implement its customs development and modernization program
As part of Dubai's keenness to share its experiences and successful experiences with various friendly countries, the Ports, Customs and Free Zone Corporation signed a letter of commitment with the General Administration of Customs in the Dominican Republic to start implementing the official customs management system, which will simplify logistics operations and reduce time and costs for cross-border trade.
The agreement was signed in the presence of Raquel Peña, Vice President of the Dominican Republic, at the headquarters of "Expo 2020 Dubai", as part of the activities of the National Day of the Dominican Republic at Expo, where the agreement was signed by Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem, President of the Ports, Customs and Free Zone Corporation in Dubai, and Eduardo Sanz Lovaton, representing the General Administration of Customs in the Dominican Republic, and a number of officials from both sides witnessed the signing.
On this occasion, Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem said: “We continue our commitment to support development and development efforts in the Dominican Republic, in line with Dubai’s approach to sharing its expertise and successful experiences with our partners in various friendly countries. Through this cooperation, we have enabled new digital solutions that connect customs officials. and merchants in the Dominican Republic through an easy-to-use interface and a set of tools designed specifically for this purpose, as the Ports, Customs and Free Zone Corporation team worked closely with the officials of the General Administration of Customs there to activate and operate this innovative platform in a manner that positively reflects on the movement of trade and supports the interests of traders.”
Bin Sulayem added: "The platform includes tools that feature a unique and highly developed risk analysis system, to replace traditional customs systems. We have also enabled processes and innovative solutions related to intelligence management, risk assessment, green path and post-clearance audits. The new solutions provided by the platform have paid off. Many benefits, including facilitating completely paperless commercial transactions, facilitating customs procedures in addition to increasing efficiency in customs clearance processes.
The President of the Ports, Customs and Free Zone Corporation in Dubai confirmed the Corporation’s interest in continuing to invest in digital platforms to confirm simplicity, transparency and efficiency in global trade transactions, especially with regard to customs procedures, noting the Corporation’s commitment to continue cooperation with the Dominican Republic in this field, and its willingness to share its distinguished experiences with all sister countries. And the friend seeking to benefit from the successful experience of the Emirate of Dubai, through which it has turned into a major center for global trade.
The cooperation comes within the framework of the economic development efforts made by the Dominican Republic as part of its endeavors to increase its competitiveness and attract foreign investments, while this agreement supports the government's aspirations there towards transforming the Latin American country into a global logistics center.
