  According to reports, the megaton CCUS project launched by Sinopec this time consists of two parts: Qilu Petrochemical's carbon dioxide capture and Shengli Oilfield's carbon dioxide flooding and storage.

Qilu Petrochemical captures and provides carbon dioxide to be transported to Shengli Oilfield for oil displacement and storage, realizing the integrated application of carbon dioxide capture, displacement and storage, sealing carbon dioxide underground and driving oil out.

  In the carbon capture link, Qilu Petrochemical’s carbon dioxide recovery and purification equipment includes compression units, refrigeration units, and liquefaction refining units, as well as supporting utilities to recover carbon dioxide from the tail gas of the coal hydrogen production unit, with a purity of more than 99% after purification; In the storage link, Shengli Oilfield uses the principle that supercritical carbon dioxide is easily miscible with crude oil, and plans to build 10 unmanned gas injection stations in Zhenglizhuang Oilfield to inject carbon dioxide into 73 nearby wells. At the same time, the oil and gas gathering and transportation system adopts closed pipeline transportation. Further increase the carbon dioxide storage rate.

Data show that there are currently 26 large-scale CCUS demonstration projects in operation worldwide, which can capture and store approximately 40 million tons of carbon dioxide each year.

  CCUS is an important measure to effectively promote carbon emission reduction. According to the Qilu Petrochemical-Shengli Oilfield million-ton level CCUS, it can reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 1 million tons per year, which is equivalent to planting nearly 9 million trees and stopping nearly 600,000 economical cars.   Sinopec said that my country has relatively large petroleum geological reserves suitable for carbon dioxide flooding, and accelerating the development of the CCUS industry will provide support for ensuring national energy security. As an indispensable technological path for carbon neutrality, CCUS has huge potential for emission reduction and broad prospects for industrial use.
