An Algerian hospital employee steals infants to sell them in Tunisia for exorbitant sums

The investigative judge of the Court of Sidi M’hamed in Algeria has ordered the temporary detention of a woman in the penal institution of Kolea Prison, on the grounds of her involvement in the theft of newborn infants and smuggling them outside the country.

An-Nahar newspaper, quoting sources, reported that the details of the case date back to October 11, when a woman in her thirties was presented by the fourth urban security services before the Public Prosecutor at the Sidi M'hamed Court on charges of stealing newborn babies and smuggling them outside the country.

The Algerian newspaper added that the accused smuggled the infants to Tunisia, noting that she had sold them for exorbitant sums of money.

The suspect was an employee of Mustafa Pasha Hospital, in addition to other people who were accomplices to the crime.

The sources indicated that, after the investigation of the suspect by the public prosecutor, her file was referred to the investigating judge, the fourth chamber of the Sidi M'hamed court, where he ordered her temporary detention in the Qleia penal institution, pending what the investigations would reveal of new developments regarding the case.
