Amendments to the Dubai International Financial Center Employment Regulations and Law

The Dubai International Financial Center today announced that His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE, in his capacity as Ruler of the Emirate of Dubai, has approved the Amended Employment Law (No. 4) of 2021, which introduces amendments to the employment law system regarding the qualification plan. This is in line with the DFSA’s employee cash purchase programmes, so that one law applies to these systems.

The center explained in a statement that the new amendments enhance the clarity of some areas of the law, including the application of limitation periods to claims submitted under the Employment Law, leave entitlements, the duration of the probationary period for short-term fixed-term contracts, and some specific conditions included in the law.

The law also includes amendments to basic health and safety requirements in the workplace under the Employment Act to take into account work-from-home arrangements.

The amendments to regulations and laws reflect the financial center's continued commitment to maintaining a transparent and robust legal and regulatory framework that ensures the application of international best practices.
